EDWARD JULIUS DETMOLD (1883-1857): "DARWIN'S DREAM" 48cm x 33cm A pencil and pastel sketch depicting naturalist Charles Darwin sitting in a cane chair, surrounded by various skulls of beasts and a large globe and telescope. Darwin also appears to have a living child sitting on his knee. Drawn by Detmold circa 1920's, after Darwin's death, it was perhaps a working sketch for a painting that appears to have never been completed. Label to verso for Detmold's agent Oliver O'Donnell Frick, for 6 Margaretta Terrace in Chelsea. This drawing is previously unknown and unrecorded.
