AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE 18TH CENTURY PRINT DEPICTING RICHARD RUNDLE BURGES (BRITISH 1754-1797), CAPTAIN OF H.M.S ARDEN WHO FELL IN THE BATTLE OF CAMPERDOWN,

Burges was reportedly cut in half by a chain shot during the first ten minutes of battle.

Provenance: Personal property of Geoffrey Dickinson, thence by family descent. Geoffrey Dickinson (1933-1988) began his contributions to Punch in 1963, and produced dozens of covers. In 1965, he was offered the position of Deputy Art Editor. Dickinson left Punch in 1984 and joined the Financial Times. Dickinsons work is held in the collections of the British Cartoon Archive, at the University of Kent, Canterbury.
